In a sad turn of events, we say goodbye to a true legend of the silver screen

In a poignant moment, we bid farewell to a silver screen icon, Bill Hayes. The legendary ‘Days of Our Lives’ actor passed away peacefully at 98, as reported by People magazine. Hayes portrayed Doug Williams for over 50 years, becoming a fixture in television history and synonymous with the Williams-Horton family.

A series spokesperson shared the heartbreaking news, stating, “With heavy hearts, we share the loss of our dear Bill Hayes. He originated the role of ‘Doug Williams’ in 1970 and portrayed him without interruption throughout his lifetime.”

Executive producer Ken Corday fondly remembered Hayes as the heart and soul of the show, saying, “Bill’s indomitable legacy will thrive in our hearts and the tales we continue to weave, both on and off the screen.”

Celebrating his 98th birthday on set last summer, surrounded by the cast, Hayes was honored with a cake inscribed “Happy Birthday Bill.” Joined by his wife, Susan Seaforth-Hayes, a touching video shared the festivities on their joint Instagram account.

Bill Hayes received the Daytime Emmy’s Lifetime Achievement Award in 2018, recognizing his exceptional portrayal. Beyond the screen, his love story with Susan Seaforth-Hayes, starting with an on-screen kiss in 1970, became a real-life romance and enduring marriage.

As we bid adieu to this beloved star, we reflect on his indelible mark on ‘Days of Our Lives’ and in the hearts of millions worldwide. Bill Hayes, a true icon, remains in our memories and on our screens.
