After a carjacking suspect is killed by a police vehicle, a mother looks for explanations.

Late Sunday afternoon, police reported that a carjacking suspect was killed when he and two other people fled from the police vehicle.

Dion Lamar Taylor, 20, of Baltimore, was identified as the deceased suspect. The crash scene was a block away from his home.

Police claim that a carjacking suspect was killed by a police vehicle. Teisha Cook told 11 News about how she learned that her son, Taylor, had been killed by a Baltimore County police vehicle a block from her house.

“I’m running around trying to find my son, not realizing he was underneath the car, and I couldn’t find them. I’m calling in and texting him, but there was no response,” Cook recalled. “Police came this way and one came that way, crashed into them, and then ran my son over while he was running up the street.”

Just before 4 p.m. on Sunday, Taylor and two other suspects allegedly carjacked a pizza delivery person in Woodlawn’s 3400 block of Merle Drive. A little while later, police found the car. Northern Parkway and Highgate Drive in Baltimore City marked the end of a pursuit that began at Essex and Liberty roads in Baltimore County.

Police reported that a handgun was thrown out the window during the pursuit. Police reported that the weapon had been found. The suspects fled while the vehicle was still in motion when they arrived at the intersection of Northern Parkway and Liberty Road. As the suspects fled, a Baltimore County police cruiser struck the vehicle and another pursued them. As Taylor turned down Highgate Drive, he was struck and killed.

Cpl. Shawn Vinson of Baltimore County police stated, “As far as we can tell, there is nothing that indicates that this officer struck the suspect on purpose.”

According to the county police, officers followed protocol, and because the investigation is still ongoing, they are unable to release more information.

All Cook wants is answers.

“He didn’t commit any crimes. She remarked, “My son was a homebody.”

One of the other suspects was taken into custody by police, according to the police. Taron Kelly, 16, of Baltimore, is accused of armed robbery, armed carjacking, motor vehicle theft, possession of a handgun, and being a minor in possession of a handgun. A third suspect is still at large, and Kelly is being held without bond.

The crash investigation is being handled by Baltimore City police.

They put the officer on regular administrative leave.
