M*A*S*H legend has died aged 82

At the age of 82, an actor who starred in some of the greatest TV series ever died.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Patrick Adiarte, who starred on “M*A*S*H” and “The Brady Bunch,” passed away in a hospital in the Los Angeles area on Tuesday. According to Stephanie Hogan, his niece, pneumonia was the cause of death.

Adriarte, an actor and dancer from the Philippines, is most known for his role as Ho-Jon on “MASH.” During the first season of the CBS series in the 1970s, the Korean orphan character helped Hawkeye Pierce (Alan Alda) and Trapper John McIntyre (Wayne Rogers) on seven episodes.

Adriarte also made a memorable appearance in the 1972 three-part season four premiere of “The Brady Bunch,” which followed Bobby Brady as he discovered a cursed tiki idol while on a Hawaiian family vacation.

THR reports Adriarte starred in the Broadway versions of the musicals “The King and I” (starring Yul Brynner) and “Flower Drum Song,” as well as the film versions of both. A brief singing career with the pop hit “Five Different Girls” followed his dancing on the NBC variety show “Hullabaloo.” He also had roles in “High Time,” “Bonanza,” “Hawaii Five-O,” “Kojak,” and “John Goldfarb, Please Come Home.”

On August 2, 1942, Patrick Robert Adiarte was born in Manila. According to The Hollywood Reporter, he was imprisoned by the Japanese during World War II and was burned by a grenade when his family attempted to flee when he was two years old. His family relocated to New York in 1946 and obtained U.S. citizenship in 1956 after his father was killed while serving as a captain in the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers.

He later taught dance, including at Santa Monica College, according to Deadline.

Adiarte’s niece and nephew survive him. He was married to cabaret singer Loni Ackerman from 1975 to 1992. In 2016, his sister passed away.
