For more than 11 years, Prince William and Kate Middleton have been married. Despite Kate’s challenging start to her royal life, the couple have gained a lot of popularity over the past ten years. At first, the paparazzi made fun of her, even her phone was hacked.
However, Kate managed to survive thanks to her husband. King Charles was not happy, despite the fact that the couple appeared to be enjoying spending time together as newlyweds as they began life as active members of the royal family.
In fact, when his son and daughter-in-law once appeared in what he believed to be an unflattering photo, then-Prince Charles even called them “tasteless.”
The relationship between Prince William and Kate Middleton dates back to when they were students. Kate has learned a lot about royal life over the years, none more so than when she became the new subject of the paparazzi.
In each other’s presence, William and Kate always looked extremely happy. Of course, they had their ups and downs, just like any other relationship.
Kate and William’s love story
In Scotland, William and Kate attended the University of St. Andrews. Although Kate was reticent at first, the pair are said to have met through friends.
She said: “I actually blushed when I saw you and I was extremely nervous about meeting you.
“It took a while to get to know each other because William wasn’t around for a good part of the first few months.
William, on the other hand, claimed he had to “shake” to remember the couple’s first date.
In the beginning, William and Kate were best friends. However, things became more serious as the years progressed at university. According to Insider, Kate caught William’s eye with a $40 dress at a fashion event and the two soon began dating.
This particular outfit allegedly changed everything, according to the documentary The Day Will and Kate Got Married, which debuted in April 2021.
According to Katie Nicholl, royal reporter for Vanity Fair, “a switch was thrown, he immediately saw her in a different way and I really feel like that was a turning point in their relationship.”
They quickly fell completely in love. Despite the fact that Kate’s outfit caught his eye, William noticed that the couple’s dynamic changed when they started dating.
Kate Middleton’s first royal appearance
The relationship “just grew from there,” as William put it, “after initially being friends for almost a year. We just spent more time together, had a good laugh and discovered that we had similar interests.”
At university, William and Kate invested a lot of time getting to know each other. Both graduated in 2005; Kate Middleton got one in art history and William one in geography.
At that time things started to get more serious. By the time they graduated, William and Kate had been living together for a long time and made their relationship known to the world.
Kate made her first public appearance with the royal family in 2006, a year later. She then went to see William perform at the Royal Military Academy’s Parade of Sovereigns with her family. The couple temporarily separated a year later before reuniting in 2008.
It must be amazing to be a member of the royal family. Life seems to be easy with all the money, fancy houses and expensive food. However, it can also be extremely difficult, as we have seen throughout history, such as with Princess Diana.
The British tabloid press, notorious for erupting when they discover someone they’re about to follow, doesn’t help matters. Alas, Kate Middleton skipped this one; was the target of great media curiosity across the country.
The media labeled Kate as “Whitey Katie”.
After all, she fell in love with the future king. However, in the same vein, that is no excuse for the media to dig into her personal problems.
When Sarah and William first started dating, she was barely 19, but the media didn’t care. Kate was called “ordinary” despite coming from a middle-class family and having parents who made millions through their business.
Kate was referred to as “Wait Katy” and “Lazy Katy” before the couple announced their engagement in 2010. Officials at Buckingham Palace claim this was a reference to Middleton’s recent decision to step down to “prepare for her future life . ”
One can only imagine what it must be like to be prepared for life as a monarch. To say that there has probably never been a greater change in lifestyle – and publicity – in the history of the world is not an exaggeration. But Kate Middleton got away with the help of the Firm and William.
Richard Fitzwilliams, a royal authority, claims that William made sure to help Kate prepare privately for life as a royal.
“It was perfectly reasonable in the circumstances for Kate and William to get to know each other for as long as they believed was appropriate.” However, reading those headlines can be disturbing and definitely stressful,” he noted.
The invasion of the princess’s privacy was most notoriously exposed in 2013. Clive Goodman, the former royal editor of the notorious News of the World, admitted to hacking Kate Middleton’s phone 155 times, starting over the Christmas holidays in 2005.
On Christmas Eve and Christmas Day, Goodman hacked into her voicemail and also claimed to have accessed Prince William’s phones 35 times and Prince Harry’s nine times.
Kate is “a figure of increasing importance in the royal family,” the former editor told the jury. There was talk of her getting married, moving and starting a family. In the circle of the royal family, she began to enjoy royal status.
“I can’t say I’m proud of it at all.” Goodman told the court: “I don’t want people to believe I’m not ashamed.”
After they split in 2006, Kate and William’s relationship improved. They renewed their romance and won the admiration of the public. The couple then took the next step in 2010.
William got down on one knee during a trip to Kenya. According to reports, the prince kept the ring in his bag for three weeks and never took it out. Although Kate Middleton was expecting William’s proposal, she still considered him a “total friend”.
Kate said it was too romantic.
The ring was extraordinary and definitely fit for a future queen or consort as it belonged to Princess Diana, William’s mother. William and Kate exchanged vows at Westminster Abbey in London on April 29, 2011.
Whether Kate will carry the title of Queen Consort or Queen, only time will tell. However, Kate is sure to follow Camilla’s example, as she will carry the title during King Charles’ coronation.
William and Kate have attended countless royal engagements over the years, in addition to performing several other duties.
It is imperative that you always present your best self, be courteous and treat everyone with respect as the future king and queen (or queen consort).
After Kate and William’s first royal tour, Charles was unhappy with them.
Perhaps, however, the most modern kings are different from the previous generation. And that may be why Prince Charles, the king at the time, was rumored to be upset about William and Kate doing something on their first royal tour.
William and Kate began fulfilling their royal duties immediately after the wedding. Their first trip abroad as a married couple and as a royal couple was a 10-day trip to the US and Canada.
Wherever they went, people welcomed the newlyweds with open arms. However, the response to William and Kate’s vacation in England was not so enthusiastic.
Sally Bedell Smith, a royal author, claims the couple took a more relaxed stance during the trip and posed for some photos that “more than slightly annoyed” Charles.
She said Charles believed William and Kate’s tour of the US and Canada had too many “tasteless” photo opportunities for her book, Prince Charles: The Passions and Paradoxes of an Impossible Life.
In addition, the future king believed that they were acting too much like a “camera-friendly couple” and were treating the trip more like a vacation than a business trip.
Charles and William reportedly had a rivalry.
So how did Kate and William do? Well, in one picture, the couple was wearing cowboy hats. This was done in recognition of the push of a button that started the annual rodeo festival known as the Calgary Stampede in Calgary, Alberta.
Phil Dampier, a royal writer, claims that Charles and William’s rivalry began shortly after the trip.
“There weren’t many people when Charles and Camilla arrived in Canada two years ago. “They’re not particularly glamorous and they’re in their 60s,” he said.
Charles felt eclipsed by Diana and now seems to feel the same way about their son. Some people may assume that he is envious. Charles would feel slighted when William married, I always thought.
