Former child star Rory Callum Sykes tragically lost his life in the devastating Los Angeles fires. “He died needlessly,” she told Australian outlet 10 News First. In his final moments, Rory urged her to leave, saying, “Mom, leave me.” But Shelley, like any mother, couldn’t bear to abandon her son. Tragically, she was unable to lift or move him due to his condition. In a frantic effort to save him, Shelley ran for help, but by the time she returned with firefighters, the cottage had been reduced to ashes.

Rory, born in Australia, had only recently moved to the United States. His life had been one of immense struggle and triumph. He underwent numerous surgeries to improve his mobility and regain his sight, but despite enduring so much, he dreamed of exploring the world. Shelley described him as a “wonderful son” in an emotional post, calling him a “gift” who shared her birthday, July 29, along with his grandmother’s.

In her tribute, Shelley shared her anguish, stating, “I couldn’t put out the cinders on his roof with a hose because the water was switched off. Even the 50 brave firefighters had no water all day.” She also expressed her devastation over the preventable nature of his death.

At just eight years old, he became a sought-after motivational speaker, inspiring countless individuals with his determination and positivity. More recently, he and Shelley had co-founded Happy Charity, further reflecting his desire to make a meaningful impact in the world.
