Trump Admin Asks Supreme Court To Freeze Deadlines In Biden-Era Cases

President Donald Trump’s Department of Justice has asked the US Supreme Court to halt a number of cases involving policies from President Joe Biden’s administration, such as those pertaining to environmental regulations and student loan forgiveness. Sarah Harris, the acting solicitor general, submitted motions to the court requesting a postponement of proceedings until the new administration examines Biden’s policies.

In the upcoming months, the Supreme Court was scheduled to hear arguments in these cases. In order to put the cases on indefinite hold, Trump’s DOJ is now attempting to freeze all deadlines. Over 5 million students had their debts forgiven under Biden’s student loan forgiveness program, but it was challenged in court by some Republican attorneys general who claimed Biden had overreached himself.

Biden’s “borrower defense” rule, which sought to cancel loans for students who had been defrauded, was blocked by the 5th Circuit Court. Although the Trump administration’s request may make these cases moot, the Supreme Court had agreed to review them. Trump has also pushed for greater domestic production of fossil fuels in opposition to Biden’s climate agenda.
