My Father Abandoned Me as a Child and I Took Revenge on Him

Amanda had spent her entire life resenting the man who abandoned her when she was just an infant. Her father, Robert, had left without a second glance, disappearing from her life and leaving her mother to fend for herself.

She had never forgiven him. Not when she aged out of the foster care system. Not when she struggled to keep the home her mother had left behind. And certainly not when she found herself alone, carrying the weight of memories that only reminded her of what she had lost.

It was just another exhausting day when Amanda returned to the small house she had fought to reclaim. The place smelled of old wood and nostalgia, wrapped in the warmth of her mother’s lingering presence.

As she stepped onto the porch, her gaze fell on the folded newspaper resting by the door. She picked it up absentmindedly, setting it on the kitchen counter before making herself a cup of tea.

But as she opened the paper and skimmed through the headlines, her hands froze. There, staring back at her, was a photograph of Robert.

Her father.

Smiling, dressed in an expensive suit, standing beside a woman half his age.

Amanda’s fingers clenched around the paper, her breath catching in her throat. It was an engagement announcement. Her father was getting married.

To someone new.

A burning sensation coiled in her chest. After all these years, after abandoning his sick wife and leaving Amanda to grow up without him, he had found a new life. A happy, privileged life.

She touched the silver studs in her ears—the only gift her mother had given her before she passed.

“Betrayal is nothing new to you,” she muttered, her voice shaking.

The past rushed back, drowning her in old wounds she had never let heal. The injustice of it all clawed at her, and before she knew it, an idea had already taken root in her mind.

She was going to teach him a lesson.

The next morning, Amanda found herself standing outside Robert’s house—a grand, pristine estate that reeked of wealth. It was a stark contrast to the modest home she had fought to keep.

Hiding behind a large oak tree, she watched as the front door opened.

Robert stepped outside, his expression content. And then, his fiancée, Carla, followed, pressing a quick kiss to his cheek before they both got into their separate cars and drove away.

Amanda swallowed hard. The sight of him, so unaffected, so untouched by the devastation he had left behind, made her stomach churn.

Taking a deep breath, she scanned the house.

An open window on the second floor caught her attention.

Without hesitation, she climbed. Years of sneaking up trees in the foster home had made her nimble, and soon enough, she was inside his bedroom.

She took a shaky breath, staring at the perfectly made bed, the pristine white sheets.

With deliberate movements, she walked forward, disturbing the covers. Then, she reached for her earring—the silver stud her mother had given her—and placed it on the pillow.

A silent weapon. A seed of doubt.

Slipping back out the window, she waited.

Not long after, Carla returned home.

Then, Robert arrived.

Amanda’s heart pounded in her chest as she approached the house and rang the doorbell.

When Carla opened the door, Amanda put on her most innocent expression.

“I’m here to see Robert,” she said, tilting her head. “Are you the maid?”

Carla’s eyes narrowed. “I’m his fiancée.”

Amanda widened her eyes. “Fiancée? Oh, that scoundrel! He told me I was the only one in his life!”

Carla stiffened. “Excuse me?”

At that moment, Robert appeared at the door, his face creasing in confusion.

“Who are you?” he demanded.

Amanda let out a mock sigh. “Oh, Robert. You don’t recognize me now?”

Carla turned sharply toward him. “What is she talking about?”

Robert frowned. “I have no idea—”

“You knew me very well this morning,” Amanda interrupted smoothly.

Carla’s gaze darkened. “Robert… what is she talking about?”

“I don’t know this woman!” Robert snapped.

Amanda shook her head, letting out a dramatic sigh. “I didn’t come to cause problems. I just need to grab my earring. I must’ve left it here.”

“Earring?” Carla’s eyes darted toward the bedroom.

Robert stiffened. “Carla, don’t listen to her—”

But Carla had already turned on her heel, storming up the stairs.

Amanda followed, her pulse racing.

As soon as she entered the bedroom, she reached for the pillow. “Ah, here it is!” she exclaimed, holding up the stud.

Carla stared at it, her face twisting in fury.

“Robert!” she shrieked. “What the hell is this doing in our bed?”

Robert’s face drained of color. “I don’t know! She planted it! Carla, listen to me!”

“You lied to me!” Carla shouted. “You cheated on me! I can’t believe I almost married you!”

Robert turned toward Amanda, his eyes burning with rage.

“You did this!” he hissed.

Amanda met his gaze with a smirk. “Now you know how betrayal feels.”

With that, she turned and walked out, ignoring the chaos behind her.

She had done what she came to do.

But karma had other plans.

A week later, Amanda overheard her coworkers talking about a wedding.

“Did you hear about that big businessman, Robert something?”

“Oh, yeah! His wedding was insane! Millions spent!”

Amanda’s stomach dropped.

Robert got married?

She clenched her fists, frustration bubbling inside her. She had tried to make him suffer. But it hadn’t mattered.

Then, her mother’s voice echoed in her mind.

“Anger is like a heavy stone, Amanda. You carry it, and it weighs you down. Sometimes, you have to let it go. Sometimes, forgiveness is the only option.”

Taking a deep breath, she made a decision.

That weekend, Amanda stood in front of Robert’s house once more.

This time, she wasn’t here for revenge.

She rang the doorbell.

Carla answered.

“You again?” she said, arms crossed.

“I need to see Robert,” Amanda said. “I’m not his girlfriend. I lied. I’m… I’m his daughter.”

Carla’s face twisted in shock.

At that moment, Robert appeared.

His eyes widened. “Amanda?”

Amanda swallowed the lump in her throat. “I just need to know why you left.”

Robert’s face crumpled. “Come inside.”

As she stepped inside, she knew this wasn’t about hurting him anymore.

This was about healing herself.
