Alan Jackson gets teary-eyed in one of last shows while singing for dad

Alan Jackson’s Emotional Farewell Tour: A Heartfelt Tribute to His Father

Alan Jackson’s farewell tour has been filled with powerful moments, but none were as emotionally charged as his March 2025 show in Orlando, Florida. While performing “Drive,” a song he wrote in 2002 after the death of his father, Jackson found himself overcome with emotion, his voice faltering as he sang the poignant lyrics. The raw emotion displayed on stage resonated deeply with the audience, making it a moment that will forever be etched in their hearts.

A Battle with Health Issues

In 2021, Alan Jackson opened up about his struggles with Charcot-Marie Tooth disease (CMT), a neurological condition he inherited from his father. In an interview with Jenna Bush Hager on Today, the 66-year-old singer shared how the illness, which affects the nerves in the feet, legs, hands, and arms, had been gradually affecting his ability to perform. Although there is no cure for CMT, Jackson spoke candidly about its impact on his life and career.

“I’ve been reluctant to talk about this publicly,” Jackson said. “It’s called CMT, ironically enough, because CMT was a big part of my career.” His father, grandmother, and older sister also struggled with the disease, and Jackson acknowledged that the symptoms were becoming more apparent.

A Farewell, But Not Goodbye

Despite his health challenges, Jackson continued to perform, embarking on the Last Call: One More for the Road Tour in 2022. He reassured fans that he wasn’t retiring, but the tour marked a shift in his ability to tour frequently. “I’m not saying I won’t be able to tour. I’ll try to do as much as I can. I don’t want people to be sad for me, it’s just part of life,” he said, acknowledging his physical decline.

In 2024, Jackson extended the tour, announcing that each show would be the last time he’d perform his 30-plus years of hits. His fans, who have followed him through the decades, embraced the opportunity to see him one last time. “Some of the best times are had right at last call, and this is one last call that you don’t want to miss!” Jackson said, encouraging fans to make the most of his final tour.

Raw Emotion on Stage

As the farewell tour neared its conclusion, emotions ran high during Jackson’s March 2025 performance in Orlando. Leaning against a stool for support, Jackson stood under the stage lights, his voice trembling with emotion as he performed “Drive.” The song, written for his father after his passing in 2000, recalls Jackson’s childhood memories of learning to drive and the special bond he shared with his dad.

“This is a song I wrote quite a few years ago when my daddy passed away. I wanted to write a song for him; I didn’t want to write some old crying-dying typical kind of thing, you know?” Jackson shared with the audience. “When I started thinking about growing up, all I ever wanted to do was drive something. He taught me all about that. That’s what this song is about.”

As Jackson reached the final chorus, his emotions got the better of him. He turned away from the microphone, visibly choked up, and the audience responded with thunderous applause, lifting him up in a heartfelt moment of support.
