White House Confirms Elon Musk’s Appointment as Special Government Employee, But Details on Security Clearance Unclear

On Monday, White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt confirmed that Elon Musk, the billionaire businessman and supporter of former President Trump, has been appointed as a special government employee. However, she could not provide specific details about whether Musk has undergone a formal background check or received security clearance, a topic that has attracted growing media attention.

During the White House press briefing, CNN’s Chief White House Correspondent Kaitlan Collins inquired about Musk’s role and his access to classified information. She asked, “Is Elon Musk a special government employee, in your opinion? And what sort of security clearance does he have?”

Leavitt responded, “I can attest that he is a special government employee. Additionally, I can confirm that he has complied with all relevant federal laws. I can follow up with you, but I’m not sure about his security clearance.”
