Two people who work in the Outback restaurant hope that nobody saw the message they wrote on the receipt for the police officers.

Police officers, paramedics, and firefighters put their lives at risk every day to keep our neighborhoods safe.

They don’t mind how much time it takes or when it is; they always work hard, even if it means working for a long time.

After four police officers in Louisiana had a really long and tiring day at work, they went to the nearby Outback Steakhouse for dinner.

Little did they know, they were about to be surprised when they finished eating.

This happened at the Outback Steakhouse in Slidell, Louisiana.

Four local officers in uniform went there after their shift, and everything was normal, just like any other time.

They got their food like usual, and nothing seemed unusual about the night, until the officers got their bill and were really surprised.

A waitress named Zoë Rao, who works at the Outback Steakhouse where the officers had their meal, said, “They’re really nice guys, and I like serving them.”

But what happened next got a lot of notice on social media.

The manager, Arline Wood, who has worked at the company for 18 years, noticed the officers when they arrived. She knew they often came to the restaurant.

So, she and waitress Zoë Rao came up with a plan together.

When the police officers had to pay their $67 bill, they were surprised by what they saw on the receipt. They soon realized that they didn’t have to pay anything.

The server and manager covered their bill, and there was a kind note on the receipt, thanking them for serving the community.

The note said, “Stay safe!” at the top, and below that, it said, “Thank you for your service! Enjoy your meal, it’s on us!”

Arline Wood said, “They care about the community, they care about everyone. They are wonderful guys. Our whole police force is amazing, and at night, I talked to Zoë, and we decided to cover their bill.”

To express their thanks, the officers apparently left a big tip to show their own appreciation.

Afterward, the Slidell Police Department wanted to honor the two Outback Steakhouse workers and shared a picture of the receipt on their Facebook page.

It spread widely on the internet.

But Arline Wood and Zoë Rao didn’t want their kind gesture to become known to the public.

In fact, when they were asked about it later, Arline Wood mentioned that the attention was a bit overwhelming.

“I received a phone call early in the morning, and I was confused about what they were talking about,” Wood remembered.

“People started calling me, and we saw it on Facebook, and it was everywhere, but we didn’t do it for this attention because, you know, I don’t really like all this attention,” she explained.

But perhaps there could be a positive outcome from all the attention?

Arline and Zoë wish that their small kindness might inspire others to do something to show gratitude to those who risk their lives every day to keep us safe.

A big thumbs up to these women for setting a great example of how to thank our police officers, who willingly go out to confront bad situations every day to protect us!

I believe we need to see more of these actions, rather than hearing about police officers being refused service or treated disrespectfully by others.

It’s gestures of gratitude like this that make them remember why they do what they do. Thanks to all first responders – we really value you!

Please share this on Facebook to encourage others to express their gratitude for those who put their lives on the line daily to protect us.
