Oscar-Nominated ‘Rocky’ Star Passes Away at 83

Death Confirmation and Early Life Actor Burt Young, renowned for his role as Paulie Pennino in the “Rocky” series, has passed away at 83, according to his manager. Born as Gerald Tommaso DeLouise in Queens, New York, Young served in the US Navy during the 1950s before diving into an acting career.

Oscar-Nominated Role in “Rocky” Young received an Oscar nomination for Best Supporting Actor in 1977 for his portrayal of Paulie, the alcoholic brother-in-law of Rocky Balboa, played by Sylvester Stallone. He reprised his role in all six original “Rocky” movies. The first “Rocky” film was a major hit, receiving 10 Oscar nominations and winning three.

Tributes and Impact Sylvester Stallone paid homage to Young, stating, “Me and the world will miss you very much.” Carmel Dagan of Variety described him as “extraordinarily creative,” noting that he gave unique depth to roles often perceived as “bad boys.”

Additional Works Beyond “Rocky,” Young also appeared in films like “Once Upon a Time in America” and TV shows such as “Law & Order” and “MAS*H.”
