Melania Trump’s Easter Look Has Everyone Talking—Here’s Why

Melania Trump wore a strikingly simple and understated outfit that garnered attention for its Canadian connection when she attended the 2025 White House Easter Egg Roll this week.

The focal point was the “GAEL-V Maxi Leather Trench Coat,” an off-white, double-breasted trench coat from the upscale Canadian design brand Mackage. The coat had a structured silhouette thanks to its storm flap and waist belt.

Meghan Markle, who has frequently been spotted wearing Mackage designs, also favors this Canadian brand.

Founded in Quebec in 1999, Mackage is still based in Montreal. In 2017, it was acquired by the American private equity firm Lee Equity.

According to Footwear News, Melania also displayed a pair of gray patent leather pumps from Roger Vivier, a classic and understated choice that went well with the muted color scheme of her ensemble.

Her choices were notable for their lack of celebration, according to the fashion press. In contrast to the pastel and festive clothing usually associated with Easter, Vogue characterized the look as “muted” and “subdued.”

For the yearly egg roll, the first lady dressed more traditionally for Easter during Donald Trump’s first term. She chose to wear a pale pink Hervé Pierre dress in 2017, a pale blue Burberry cashmere jacket the following year, and a blue Michael Kors dress in 2019.

Melania took part in the event by reading to the kids who were there. President Trump commended her for her work planning the celebrations.

Given the news of Pope Francis’s death that day, which was acknowledged during the celebrations, the muted appearance was seen as expressing a more solemn or restrained mood at the event.

The New York Times stated that her decisions are not “necessarily political.” Melania “long ago rejected the idea that, when it came to clothes, she would have to play by anyone’s rules other than her own,” after all.
