11 injured in shooting in quiet North Carolina city

Early on Sunday morning, June 1, a tragic shooting at a house party in Mountain View, a quiet community near Hickory, North Carolina, left one person dead and eleven others injured. The Catawba County Sheriff’s Office reports that at approximately 12:45 a.m., authorities were called to a residence on Walnut Acres Drive.

There were about 100 guests, including children, at the pool party when the shooting happened. According to a resident who spoke to WBTV, the gunfire appeared sporadic and occurred primarily outdoors. The front and back yards, the house itself, and even a nearby yard are all part of the crime scene.

Twelve victims—one dead, one critically ill, and several others hospitalized—have been reported, according to the sheriff’s office. Whether the victims lived at the house or were related is still unknown.

Although authorities have not yet determined the types of firearms used, they have confirmed that multiple weapons were involved. No suspects had been identified as of Sunday morning, and no arrests had been made.

With assistance from special agents from the North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation, the Hickory Police Department and the Catawba County Sheriff’s Office are spearheading the investigation. Authorities are trying to figure out why and who is to blame.

Please call the Catawba County Sheriff’s Office at 828-464-3112 if you have any information.

During this tragic time, our thoughts are with the victims and their families.
