Nigeria’s media community is mourning the loss of Somtochukwu Maduagwu, a 29-year-old Arise TV news anchor whose life was cut short during a violent robbery at her residence in Abuja.
According to FCT Commissioner of Police Ajao Adewale, the attack occurred in the early hours of Monday, September 29, at Unique Apartments, Katampe. Amid the chaos, Somtochukwu reportedly fell from the third floor while trying to escape the assailants.

Local vigilantes discovered her unconscious and rushed her to Maitama General Hospital, where medical teams fought to revive her. Despite their efforts, she returned to her Lord shortly thereafter. Police confirmed that the intruders had forced entry into the compound, shooting one of the guards before breaking into several apartments.

Commissioner Adewale called the event “tragic and deeply unfortunate,” assuring the public that a special task force has been deployed to apprehend those responsible. Justice, he said, will not sleep.
