Her Post-Surgery Struggle Was Real—But Her Glow-Up Is Even More Powerful!

Katie Wolferding had an uneven chin and an underbite that caused her a lot of physical and emotional pain for years. Because people made fun of how she looked and she didn’t like how she looked, she often avoided pictures and hid her profile from the camera. Katie finally made the brave choice to have double jaw surgery in June 2018, even though she had been thinking about it for a long time. This was a big step toward getting her confidence back.

It wasn’t easy to get better. Katie had to learn how to talk and eat again, and she also had to deal with unexpected problems after her surgery, like severe nasal congestion that made her feel like she was suffocating. But she made it through the hardest days by being smart and using nasal strips and even a condiment bottle with a syringe to eat. Simple things like chapstick and dry mouth spray became very important for her to heal.

The physical healing was hard, but the emotional healing was even harder. Katie had to deal with years of bullying and self-criticism, and she had to learn to accept her new face, especially the changes to her nose. She was able to move on because of her faith and the love of her family and friends. In June 2019, a year later, she happily celebrated being able to smile without thinking about it. She used to avoid it completely.

Her honesty online hit home. Many people praised her bravery and beauty and sent her support. Katie is 28 years old and lives in Sikeston, Missouri. She owns Wolferding Photography and has a creative, loving life with her husband, Blake. The couple bought their first home in January 2025, starting a new, exciting chapter in their lives.

Katie’s faith and community are very important to her journey. She has changed in more than one way, going from hiding from the world to fully accepting all of who she is. Her story shows how strong, loving, and open you can be. Today, she lives with pride, and her smile is no longer hidden; it shines for everyone to see.
