Multiple-Vehicle Collision on Mexico-Querétaro Highway: Trailer Loses Control in Huehuetoca

Huehuetoca, State of Mexico — November 20.
A multi-vehicle collision disrupted traffic Wednesday morning on the Mexico-Querétaro Highway, near kilometer 59, after a trailer reportedly failed to stop in time and struck several vehicles.

According to early reports, the trailer was traveling toward Mexico City when the driver lost control before reaching the Jorobas intersection. The vehicle collided with a roadside bank and then crashed into five passenger cars and a pickup truck, finally coming to rest across the roadway. The trailer blocked all three lanes of the north-south corridor, forcing a temporary closure and significant delays.

Preliminary Causes and Traffic Impact

Initial assessments from traffic authorities suggest that wet pavement and low visibility from morning rain may have contributed to the accident. However, investigators are reviewing mechanical factors and driver statements to determine the precise cause.

By midday, emergency crews and highway operators had cleared two lanes to gradually restore movement, though congestion extended for several kilometers in both directions.

Response and Safety Measures

Paramedics from local emergency units attended to the scene, providing on-site medical care to several drivers and passengers with minor injuries such as bruises and shock. No fatalities or serious injuries were reported. Authorities nonetheless advised those involved to seek hospital evaluation to rule out delayed complications.

The National Guard (Road Division) urged motorists to maintain safe distances and moderate speeds, especially under wet or low-visibility conditions. Travelers were also reminded to check vehicle brakes before long-distance trips and monitor weather advisories for the corridor.

Community and Public Guidance

Although the crash caused temporary disruption, swift coordination among rescue teams and highway personnel prevented greater harm. Officials thanked drivers for their patience and reiterated that safety depends on shared responsibility — alertness, preventive maintenance, and respect for road conditions.
