You Won’t Be Able To Take Your Eyes Off HUGE Texas Dance Troupe the Emerald Belles

Based in Southlake, Texas, the Emerald Belles have existed for almost 30 years. The US troupe describes itself as a super-sized dance team with an established tradition of excellence. Over that period, the group has collected numerous awards and participated in many competitions.

Among its victories was the 2017 Crowd Pleasers Dance Area Competition. The Emerald Belles won with “High Kick,” a creative routine that sometimes relied on illusion. Set to Eurythmics’ “Sweet Dreams (Are Made of This),” the choreography placed the technical high-kick movement at its center.

At the start of the number, all 80 dancers freestyle separately. That individual movement makes the ensuing shift especially striking: the entire team abruptly falls into synchronization. The performers assemble in the middle of the floor, where they execute their high kicks together.

As the routine progresses, the unified team divides into smaller groups. Their coordinated movements form optical illusions, including passages that appear to make the floor move. Spectators scream through much of the performance, showing that it is a favorite from the outset. The routine went on to win the competition.
