Our Thoughts And Prayers Are With Reba McEntire And Her Family

This year marks the 33rd anniversary of the tragic plane crash that forever changed the lives of Reba McEntire and her musical family.

On March 16, 1991, a devastating accident claimed the lives of eight members of McEntire’s band and crew. These individuals were not only talented musicians but also close friends of the singer.

Reba shared her feelings on social media, expressing gratitude for those who left a lasting impact on the music industry.

The accident occurred when the plane’s wing struck a boulder on Otay Mountain during a flight from San Diego to Indiana.

At the time, Reba was unwell and stayed behind at the hotel with her husband, Narvel, and her stylist, while the rest of the group continued on.

Among those lost were tour manager Jim Hammon and musicians Chris Austin, Joey Cigainero, and Terry Jackson, as well as other crew members Paula Kaye Evans and Terry Jackson.

“Their passion for music and their incredible stage presence continue to inspire us all,”
McEntire said in an emotional Instagram tribute. The post included a video of the band performing, serving as a touching tribute to their talent and unity.
McEntire often reflects on her bandmates, ensuring their legacy endures through her memories and stories.

In a 2012 interview with Oprah Winfrey, Reba recounted the chilling moment she learned of the crash.

She described the night, sharing,
“When we received the notification, Narvel went to meet our pilot, who revealed the devastating news. In the late hours of the night, Narvel returned to our hotel room and delivered the heart-wrenching message: one of the planes had crashed. I asked, ‘Are they okay?’ To which he replied, ‘I don’t think so.’ I pressed further, ‘But you’re not sure?’ And he softly said, ‘I don’t think so.’ “

As we remember these extraordinary individuals, we honor the indelible mark they left on McEntire’s career and the music world. Their legacy lives on in the hearts of those who knew them and through the music they created together.
