Beloved actor dies at 37 after being shot in Los Angeles

It is with deep sorrow that we remember Johnny Wactor, the beloved star of General Hospital, whose life was tragically cut short at the age of 37. Wactor’s passing occurred on a Saturday morning in Los Angeles, where he heroically lost his life while protecting a coworker from thieves attempting to steal his catalytic converter.

Wactor’s courage and selflessness were evident in the moments before the tragedy. While escorting a coworker to her car after a shift at a rooftop bar, he noticed three masked men near his vehicle. Initially believing his car was being towed, he quickly realized the danger when one of the men brandished a gun. Without hesitation, Wactor shielded his coworker, embodying the true essence of a Southern gentleman.

His brother, Grant, spoke to the Daily Mail, sharing that their Southern upbringing emphasized protecting others, especially women. “We’re proud Southerners, and we would never let a woman walk to her car alone,” he said. Grant also described Johnny as an exceptionally hardworking individual, both in his acting career and within his family. “I believe my brother worked harder than anyone I’ve ever known. He was a devoted son and a loving brother,” Grant added.

The news of Wactor’s untimely death sent shockwaves through the entertainment industry and among his fans. Fellow actor William deVry, who also starred on General Hospital, expressed his grief, calling the loss “senseless” and underscoring the significant impact Johnny had on those around him. DeVry took to social media, formerly known as Twitter, to share his sorrow, writing, “There are no words to describe how pointless this loss is. Johnny was an incredible person. This is just heartbreaking. Rest in peace, Johnny Wactor. Sending love and comfort to his family and friends.”

Parry Shen, who shared the screen with Wactor on General Hospital, also paid tribute to his friend, recalling Johnny’s beautiful soul, talent, and sense of humor. Shen fondly remembered the times they spent together, both on and off the screen, expressing his deep admiration for Wactor as a person.

Johnny Wactor’s influence extended beyond his colleagues on the show. Sofia Mattsson, who portrayed his wife on the drama series, took to Instagram to share her admiration for him. She praised Wactor for his honesty, care, humility, and dedication, highlighting his ability to bring joy and kindness to everyone he encountered. Mattsson expressed gratitude for the time they spent together, calling Wactor a true inspiration.

The entire General Hospital family is mourning the loss of Wactor, recognizing his unique presence and offering heartfelt condolences to his loved ones during this difficult time.

As the investigation continues, the Central Division Homicide of the Los Angeles Police Department is working tirelessly to bring justice to those responsible for this tragedy. The General Hospital community stands united in remembering Johnny Wactor’s legacy and the profound impact he had on all who knew him.
