FCC Chairman Brendan Carr to Update Lawmakers on George Soros’s Influence Over Local Radio Stations

A source with knowledge of the planning told Fox News Digital that House Republicans will receive an update on the Trump administration’s investigation into billionaire George Soros’ influence on local radio.

FCC Chairman Brendan Carr will attend the Republican Study Committee’s (RSC) annual closed-door lunch on Wednesday. The RSC is a caucus of 175 members led by Rep. August Pfluger, R-Texas.

Carr is anticipated to brief GOP lawmakers on the FCC’s investigation into Soros, which includes an investment firm he is connected to buying more than 200 Audacy radio stations across the country, according to the source familiar with the planning. It is also anticipated that Carr and Republicans will talk more broadly about ways to counteract media that is thought to be anti-GOP.

The House GOP’s largest legislative body, the RSC, has historically served as the conference’s unofficial think tank.

So far this year, it has also served as a conduit for a number of high-ranking Trump administration officials to visit Capitol Hill.

Last month, Stephen Miller, the deputy chief of staff, spoke to the RSC about immigration and President Donald Trump’s executive action plan. Energy Secretary Chris Wright addressed the group earlier in February.

The largest stake in radio giant Audacy at the end of the Biden administration last year was acquired by an investment firm associated with Soros, a left-wing businessman who has invested billions of dollars in liberal causes.

After Audacy declared Chapter 11 bankruptcy, the Soros Investment Fund bought about 40% of its debt.

Sen. John Kennedy, R-La., and Rep. Chip Roy, R-Texas, were among the Republican lawmakers who criticized the agreement and demanded close examination.

Late last year, Carr hinted that he wanted to target Soros in an interview on “Mornings with Maria.”

“A petition for reconsideration is currently pending at the FCC. He stated in late November, “And I want to take a very hard look at that.”
