When Dave Grohl Invited His 8 Year Old Daughter To Play Drums Infront Of 20,000 People

At eight years old, Harper Grohl joined Foo Fighters behind the drum kit at Iceland’s Secret Solstice Festival. The June 2017 appearance placed her before a crowd of 20,000, with her father, Dave Grohl, introducing her before the band performed Queen’s “We Will Rock You.” It was the first song Harper had learned on drums.

Dave’s own career began at the drums in Nirvana, Kurt Cobain’s band. After Cobain’s suicide in 1994, Dave launched Foo Fighters as a one-person project. The following year brought the self-titled Foo Fighters album, a collection of his own songs. With one track as the only exception, he supplied every instrument and all the vocals on the record.

Once the album succeeded, Dave brought in other musicians to form the band. Foo Fighters subsequently amassed ten studio albums, five concert albums, four compilations and 57 singles. Seven studio releases reached number one in various countries. Their awards included 15 Grammys, five Brit Awards and three NME Awards.

Dave married Jordyn Bloom, his second wife, in 2003. Their daughters are Violet Maye, born in 2006; Harper Willow, born in 2009; and Ophelia Saint, born in 2014. Both older daughters displayed musical interests. Violet sang with Foo Fighters onstage, while Harper’s festival appearance showcased her ability as a drummer.
