Josh Groban & H.E.R. Sing stunning “Beauty and the Beast” duet at 30th anniversary show

H.E.R. And Josh Groban took the central roles in ABC’s event marking three decades since Disney’s animated Beauty and the Beast. Appearing respectively as Belle and The Beast, they performed the film’s main theme together. H.E.R. Opened “Beauty and the Beast” with a gentle first verse before Groban joined her for the duet.

The performance paired H.E.R.’s portrayal of a Disney princess with Groban’s smooth tenor. As a classical crossover star, he brought an established vocal presence to the number, but neither performer dominated it. Their contrasting voices worked as complementary parts of the song rather than competing showcases.

Singing was only one part of H.E.R.’s performance. At the bridge, she played an electric-guitar solo using a transparent Strat, despite being outfitted in a complete ball gown. She performed while making her way down a long staircase and reached the bottom without losing her balance, a feat presented as perhaps the night’s most impressive.

ABC surrounded the two leads with an extensive stage production. Twelve ballroom dancers joined them, while additional cast members appeared in period-style formal dress. The anniversary special also included Martin Short and Shania Twain performing “Be Our Guest” as a comedy number. Short was featured as Lumière, the aristocratic candelabra from France.
