Second Body Found: 7-Year-Old Kid Dies After Explosion In Newcastle

The name of the seven-year-old child who tragically died in a Newcastle explosion has been revealed as Archie York. His family has shared his name in remembrance, honoring the young boy whose life was cut short.

Another body was also discovered at the site of the explosion, believed to be that of a man in his 30s. A spokesperson for Northumbria Police expressed their sympathies, stating, “Our thoughts are very much with the family and friends of the two people who have tragically lost their lives.” They also noted that specialist officers are providing support to the loved ones affected and asked everyone to respect the family’s privacy during this difficult time.

The explosion occurred in the Newcastle neighborhoods of Benwell and Elswick in the early hours of October 16. Emergency personnel were dispatched quickly to the scene, which was chaotic and full of destruction. Six other individuals were hospitalized as a result of the incident—five adults and one child—but all but one have since been released from medical care. The remaining patient, a man in his 30s, remains in the hospital in serious but stable condition, as confirmed by Northumbria Police.

Police also stated that the explosion was not linked to any ongoing missing persons cases. Superintendent Darren Adams, speaking at the site of the explosion, conveyed his deep sorrow over the tragic events. “I come before you today with deep sorrow over the untimely death of a small boy,” he said. Adams confirmed that the seven-year-old boy had sadly passed away at the scene despite the best efforts of emergency services. He called the outcome “truly devastating” and added, “I have no doubt that the people of Elswick and Benwell, and our wider region, will want to join me in extending their thoughts and condolences to family and friends. The loss and pain they must be suffering is unimaginable.”

Archie’s family has been paying tribute to him on social media, as reported by Metro. Archie’s aunt described him as “the most beautiful, funny, & caring little boy” and wrote that his name “deserves to be shouted from the rooftops.” A neighbor also shared kind words, calling Archie a “lovely lad” who “everyone knew.”

Drone footage of the affected homes shows extensive destruction, with one house nearly completely demolished and surrounding properties severely damaged. The explosion also led to several other residents being evacuated from their homes for safety. The aftermath of the event has left a mark on the community, with many grieving the loss of young Archie and the man who lost his life, while others are left to pick up the pieces after the damage to their homes and lives.
