Star of ‘American Pickers’ suffered loss days after dream wedding

Only days after her dream wedding to Jeremy Scheuch, American Pickers star Danielle Colby faced the bittersweet reality of life when she had to say goodbye to someone who brought “unexplainable magic” into her life—her father-in-law, “Papa John.” His passing, shortly after their celebration, left an indelible mark on what was supposed to be a purely joyful time.

Fans of the hit TV show American Pickers were thrilled to get a glimpse of Danielle Colby’s idyllic wedding to photographer Jeremy Scheuch on February 15, 2024. The ceremony, held in picturesque Puerto Rico, was a perfect reflection of the couple’s artistic spirits and love for creativity. Danielle dazzled in a sweeping powder-blue gown, and the event, marked by rustic elegance, was attended by close family and friends.

Danielle shared her joy with her fans through a heartfelt Facebook post on February 17, along with a photo of her and Jeremy at the altar, silhouetted against a vivid blue sky. She described the moment as the happiest of her life, standing with her best friend “on the edge of a mountain, overlooking the vast ocean, surrounded by loving family and friends.”

However, Danielle also acknowledged an emotional absence. She wrote about Jeremy’s family, who couldn’t attend the ceremony as they stayed behind to care for his father, John, who was battling cancer. “Their presence was a hole in our hearts,” she admitted, but added that they felt his family’s spirit with them in every moment.

A few days after their nuptials, the newlyweds traveled from Puerto Rico to Kansas City to be with Jeremy’s father, whose condition had worsened. On February 19, John, affectionately known as “Papa John,” passed away at age 70, surrounded by loved ones. Known for bringing joy to countless children by playing Santa Claus for over 40 years, John’s legacy left an everlasting impact on his family and community.

Danielle openly shared her grief with fans, reflecting on the juxtaposition of profound loss and newfound joy. In a moving Facebook tribute, she honored her father-in-law’s generous spirit and the impact he had on their lives. “Papa John…You spent your life advocating and creating miracles for the most vulnerable children in your community,” she wrote. “You opened your doors when we needed you, sprinkling your magic around us during hard times. You always cared so much and loved so hard.”

Danielle expressed how deeply John’s absence was felt at their wedding, recalling moments when the couple would cry over small reminders of him. Despite his physical absence, she noted that “the entire week of our wedding was filled with the most unexplainable magic,” which she attributed to his presence in spirit.

John’s dedication to spreading joy extended far beyond his role as a father and grandfather. As the president of Santa America, an organization dedicated to comforting children in need, his work touched the lives of countless families. Danielle’s tribute captured this duality of loss and legacy: “Even though you were thousands of miles away, trying to heal, you were there with us in every moment. Although you’re no longer physically here, I feel you everywhere. Absolutely everywhere.”

The outpouring of support from fans has been overwhelming. Many shared heartfelt condolences on social media, highlighting the love and magic John brought to those around him. One fan commented, “Even though he couldn’t be there physically at your wedding, he waited and was able to let go knowing you and his son would comfort each other.” Another wrote, “Papa John is with you, smiling from above.”

Danielle’s story is a poignant reminder of the resilience of love and family. In moments of great joy and deep sorrow, the bonds we share with those we love endure, leaving an everlasting imprint on our lives.
