“I’m dead in life”: Erika is 20 years old and requested euthanasia after being left quadriplegic by a bottle…See More

Erika Morales, the young woman who was brutally attacked in a Pasto bar and left quadriplegic, has passed away. She asked to be put to death.

While in the restroom of a Pasto bar, the young woman was brutally attacked. People close to Erika have claimed on social media that Glair Gómez and Leidy León were the attackers; however, authorities have not verified this claim.

Érika Deyanira Morales, a 20-year-old woman who became quadriplegic after being attacked with a bottle in a bar when she was 17, had her final wish granted on Saturday, March 1, 2025.

With the help of her family, the young woman, who was originally from Los Andres, Sotomayo (Nariño), had communicated her desire for euthanasia, highlighting the daily emotional and physical suffering she experienced. Morales’s family, however, claims that her EPS Emssanar had refused to allow her to have the surgery.

Her death was confirmed on Saturday afternoon after the health authority authorized the procedure on February 22 due to Tatiana Morales’s and her sister’s insistence and the case’s virality. She shared a picture of the two of them along with the message, “Fly high, my beautiful angel, I love you always, little sister,” on WhatsApp. She subsequently posted another picture of Erika’s hands beside hers, signifying the two sisters’ unbreakable bond.

It has not yet been determined whether Morales’ recent medical issues were the direct cause of his passing, but local media reports indicate that he had been dealing with them.

Public attention was drawn to Erika’s case, particularly as a result of the social media posts her family made describing the trying circumstances she had faced recently. The young woman became a symbol of the struggle for the right to die with dignity after losing her ability to move and becoming totally reliant on others to perform her daily tasks.

It should be mentioned that Tatiana Morales discussed on social media the emotional challenges she faced in supporting her sister in this decision after finding out that the EPS had approved the procedure.

“I want to convey that there are a lot of conflicting emotions and that losing a sister—my only sister—is difficult. You know, I don’t care about hateful remarks today. All I know is that it was the best way I could show my sister how much I care. that I was able to get her heard and that she will be alright. I intend to keep fighting for my sister’s justice. Everything is true; it was accepted. We’ll deal with the rest as a family; it’s private,” she wrote.

Erika’s life was altered by this accident.
Érika, who was 17 at the time, went to a bar in Pasto (Nariño) on August 2, 2021, with her friends. Morales suffered multiple strokes and a severe spinal cord injury that left her quadriplegic after she was struck by a whiskey bottle in the restroom, reportedly during an argument.

Her life was drastically changed by this incident, which had an impact on both her mental and physical health. Morales regained consciousness a year and seven months after leaving critical condition, but she was still unable to move or breathe on her own. Tatiana told Caracol Radio, “My mother was informed by the specialist that the prognosis was not encouraging.”

Even though they are struggling financially, her mother and sister have since taken it upon themselves to give Erika the best living arrangements: “We had to ask for help so she could pay the rent, bring diapers, creams to my sister, among many other things that a hospital requires,” she told the media.

Information available about the attackers
In the meantime, pictures of the alleged attackers of the young woman in the establishment’s restroom started making the rounds on social media. Nevertheless, there have been no reported official developments in the case. Glair Gómez and Leidy León were the names of the women.
