Micky Dolenz makes epic comeback at 81 reviving The Monkees’ greatest hit in staggering new live performance as the band’s last living member
Micky Dolenz is still performing at 81 as the sole surviving member of The Monkees. The singer has continued presenting solo concerts built around music connected with the 1960s pop group rather than retiring from the stage. In May 2026, that activity included a show at The Church Studio, where Dolenz and his band played for an audience of about 100 people.
The intimate set featured a new version of “I’m A Believer,” The Monkees’ best-known hit. Video from the performance accumulated more than 301,000 views in the months after it appeared online. The clip also renewed attention among the group’s followers, many of whom focused on Dolenz’s ability to keep performing the song at his current age.
For the Church Studio rendition, Dolenz and the musicians moved away from the original recording’s bright pop style. Their 2026 arrangement drew more heavily on country pop and gave the number a looser feel. The source described Dolenz’s vocals as steady and accurate, while his smiling delivery supplied the cheerful character of the performance. By this point, he had spent approximately 60 years singing the track in concert.
“I’m A Believer” was released in November 1966, when Dolenz was 21. Neil Diamond wrote the song, which went on to be identified as the top-selling single of 1967. Diamond later explained that The Monkees reaching No. 1 with his composition gave him the same satisfaction he would have felt if his own recording had achieved that result.
