“The Largest Mass Deportation Effort in U.S. History”: Trump Issues Chilling New Orders Amid Nationwide Protests

The public outcry, nationwide protests, and most definitely his strict immigration policies have not caused President Donald Trump to back down.

He is, if anything, stepping up his efforts.

Trump dramatically upped his rhetoric this week, promising to implement what he refers to as “the single largest mass deportation program in history.” And in doing so, he has directly warned Los Angeles, New York, and Chicago—three of the biggest and most diverse cities in America.

Both detractors and supporters are preparing for what will happen next as tensions escalate.

Protests Break Out, But Trump Continues
Major cities from coast to coast have turned into protest hotspots in recent weeks. Chanting in support of immigrant communities and condemning what they call cruel ICE raids, protesters have swarmed the streets.

However, the criticism only seems to make Donald Trump more determined.

Trump posted on Truth Social, “Radical Democrat Politicians subject the Brave Men and Women of ICE to violence, harassment, and even threats on a daily basis.” “However, nothing will prevent us from carrying out our mission.”

Trump claims that the goal is clear: to apprehend and deport undocumented immigrants on a scale that has never been attempted in the history of modern-day America.

Arrests Will Increase by More Than 350% Every Day
Stephen Miller, Trump’s longtime immigration advisor and current Deputy Chief of Staff, is working behind the scenes of this aggressive campaign. Miller affirmed that the administration intends to significantly boost the number of ICE arrests each day, from the current average of 650 to at least 3,000.

ICE would have to function at a level not seen since the post-9/11 era, which is more than a 350% increase.

According to reports, Miller told insiders, “We’re not just talking about expanding operations.” “We are discussing a structural change in immigration enforcement.”

Trump’s Clear Directive: “ICE Must Complete the Task”
Trump’s unusually direct order via Truth Social earlier this week made headlines.

“ICE Officers are hereby directed, by notice of this TRUTH, to exert every effort to accomplish the crucial objective of implementing the largest mass deportation program in history.”

His administration would commit “every resource possible” to making sure the operation is successful, he continued.

In addition to ICE, the FBI, DEA, ATF, and Border Patrol are also involved, and he says he fully supports their efforts to make mass arrests and removals.

The Cities at Risk: Chicago, New York, and Los Angeles
Trump stated that some cities will be the focus of his deportation campaign, even though it is a nationwide policy.

“With millions upon millions of illegal aliens living in America’s largest cities, including Los Angeles, Chicago, and New York, we must increase efforts to detain and deport Illegal Aliens,” he wrote.

All three of those cities have robust sanctuary city protections and are among the most diverse in the nation. Mayors and city councils have already started organizing community alerts and legal defenses in response.

Karen Bass, the mayor of Los Angeles, described the action as “a terrifying abuse of federal power.” Trump’s order has been characterized by New York city officials as a “declaration of war against immigrant communities.”

However, the crackdown is long overdue for Trump and his supporters.

A Word War — With Caution
Trump is not only going after illegal immigrants. He is targeting Democratic lawmakers who disagree with his plan, accusing them of sabotaging the country for their own political ends.

He wrote, “These Radical Left Democrats are fed up, despise our nation, and genuinely wish to demolish our inner cities — And they are doing a good job of it…”

He added that immigration was linked to a wider cultural divide.

For this reason, they support transgender equality for all, open borders, and men participating in women’s sports. In our Heartland, you never hear of Sanctuary Cities!

His message was unambiguous: immigration isn’t the only issue behind this deportation campaign. According to Trump and his followers, it’s about reclaiming America’s political and cultural identity.

Does the Military Play a Role?
The potential military involvement in Trump’s plan is perhaps more concerning than the ICE’s expanded role.

The Posse Comitatus Act, which limits military action on American soil, would be challenged if Trump were to consider deploying the U.S. military to assist immigration enforcement, as he indicated in an interview with TIME last year.

The concept hasn’t been ruled out, but no official announcement has been made.

In a campaign interview last August, Senator J.D. Vance stated, “Let’s start with 1 million,” referring to the total number of immigrants he thought Trump could deport in his first year of expanded deportation.

If Trump pushes this line, critics have already started getting ready for possible legal disputes, but the specifics are still unknown.

How Many People Have Been Deported, Then?
The Trump administration claims that by April 2025, about 140,000 illegal immigrants had been deported. Independent immigration watchdogs, however, predict that the actual figure may be much lower—perhaps as low as 75,000.

The way removals are reported is the cause of the disparity. Some figures include multiple entries by the same individual, criminal transfers, and voluntary returns. In any case, Trump has stated unequivocally that he feels the numbers are insufficient.

And that’s going to change now, he says.

Fear and Resistance Are the Reactions of Communities
Trump’s vigorous campaign has made undocumented families nationwide live in continual fear.

Calls for assistance have increased at churches, shelters, and legal aid organizations. Some parents have taken their kids out of school. Fearing that ICE might be waiting outside, some people have ceased going to work.

To help families who might be targeted, religious leaders in Chicago are forming “sanctuary response teams.” Multilingual know-your-rights materials are being distributed by immigrant advocacy groups in New York.

There is a real and increasing emotional cost.

“This level of fear has never been witnessed before,” stated Maria Gomez, a legal coordinator for a Los Angeles nonprofit. “People want to know if it’s too late to leave the country now.”

Critics Raise the Alarm Against Trump’s Base Cheers
The mass deportation plan is being greeted by Trump’s supporters as a long-overdue return to law and order.

The action has been hailed as brave, necessary, and patriotic by conservative pundits.

However, civil rights groups caution that Trump’s plans go well beyond what previous administrations have tried and may result in numerous constitutional infractions.

According to ACLU lawyer James Hathaway, “this isn’t just bad policy.” “A human rights crisis is on the horizon.”

What Happens Next?
Both sides of the immigration debate are intensifying their attacks as protests and raids increase.

With his base supporting him and allies like Stephen Miller on his side who are already establishing the framework for larger federal operations, Trump seems unfazed by the public’s disapproval.

In the meantime, immigrant rights organizations are mobilizing resources, Democratic leaders are drafting legal challenges, and America’s biggest cities are rushing to protect communities that are at risk.

Both policy and ideology are used to draw the battle lines.

Furthermore, the upcoming months may see a transformation of the country’s immigration landscape unlike anything seen in generations, as Trump has already warned that this is “just the beginning.”
