‘Sleeping Prince’ Dies At 36 After Spending Nearly 20 Years In Coma

Prince Al-Waleed bin Khaled bin Talal, regrettably, died.

The 36-year-old Saudi prince has been in a coma since a serious car accident in London in 2005.

An incident in England when Prince Al-Waleed was still a teenager caused him to suffer severe brain damage and internal hemorrhage. Unfortunately, even after being treated for his injuries right away, he never regained consciousness.

The prince was kept alive by life support during the last 20 years of his life at King Abdulaziz Medical City in Saudi Arabia.

Prince Al-Waleed’s habitual unconsciousness earned him the nickname “Sleeping Prince.” After being on life support for 20 years, the Saudi royal is now deceased.

Prince Khaled bin Talal Al Saud, his father, announced Prince Al-Waleed’s death yesterday, July 19, in a statement.

“We mourn our beloved son: Prince Al-Waleed bin Khaled bin Talal bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, may Allah have mercy on him, who passed away today, with deep sorrow and sadness and with hearts believing in Allah’s will and decree,” he said, as reported by Mirror Online.

In 2019, it was reported that Prince Al-Waleed made a small head movement and raised a finger, which were his last known movements.

Although these moments did not signify a return to full consciousness, Roya News stated that “he showed signs of limited awareness through small gestures, such as lifting a finger or slightly moving his head.”

People have been posting condolences on social media since the prince’s death.

“The Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques, King Salman bin Adbulaziz, His Royal Highness Prince Mohammed bin Salman, and the esteemed Royal Family, on the passing of His Royal Highness Pirnce Alwaleed bin Khaled bin Talal Al Saud, who passed away after a long struggle that lasted nearly twenty years following a tragic accident,” the Global Imams Council said in a statement.

“May Prince Al-Waleed bin Khaled, Rest in Peace,” wrote another. Sincere condolences to his family.

“Your time on earth was a blessing to your family and the world in general,” wrote a further.

Another person added, “May his gentle soul rest in perfect peace,”

Prince Al-Waleed’s funeral prayers are reportedly scheduled to take place at the Imam Turki bin Abdullah Mosque in Riyadh.
