Men Singing ‘You Raise Me Up’ Will Give You Chills

Whether it’s the singers’ ability to hold the attention of the listener or the lack of instrumentation highlighting the lyrics, a well-executed acapella song may add depth to any music.

This is especially true with Brigham Young University’s (BYU) Vocal Point’s acapella performance of Josh Groban’s 2003 hit song, “You Raise Me Up.” This upbeat tune is given new life in their rendition.

Acapella group BYU Vocal Point was created in 1991 by students Dave Boyce and Bob Ahlander. The trio sold out their initial concert and quickly became well-known on campus.

BYU Vocal Point has won various awards since its founding, including fifth place in the third season of NBC’s The Sing-Off.

When they shared on social media in December 2018 that they had signed a record deal with Decca Gold, the classical label owned by Universal Music Group, more people became aware of their skill.

“We’re ordinary college students doing extraordinary things,” said member Jason Bromley.

The music video for “You Raise Me Up” is a dramatic vocal journey.

A breathtaking scene of mountains and valleys serves as the backdrop for the music video for ‘You Raise Me Up’.

A single, distinct voice opens the recording, then shortly after, another one harmonises with it to create a full, layered sound.

The ensemble produces amazing vocal percussion sounds to go along with their clear, bright voices.

The vocalists’ performance of the song transforms into an immersive experience as they go across the mountainous terrain.

The scene almost becomes unbearably serene, demonstrating how music has the ability to take listeners elsewhere.

It’s hard to tell who the lead singers are because of how well their harmonies mesh.

They steer clear of a mere copy of the original and instead deliver a surprisingly unique rendition of this extensively covered song.

They add a new hook at the end that improves the harmonies, incorporating their distinct style and arrangement into the song. A chorus of extra pupils supports the crescendo, resulting in an incredibly potent finish.

You’re going to love this amazing performance of “You Raise Me Up” by BYU Vocal Point. Enjoy this one-of-a-kind and inspirational performance while relaxing.
