The Bride Who Knew More Than She Should

I knew right away that this wedding would make the ideal setting for a secret revelation. Greg believed he had everything worked out, but he was unaware that I was in possession of the detonator.

It seemed like something from a fairy tale when Greg and I got married. Greg was grinning as he stood at the altar. He saw it as the start of our ideal existence. However, I saw it as the conclusion of a lovely lie.

His parents were the ideal in-laws, there were champagne toasts, laughter reverberated throughout the lawn, and the reception unfolded like a dream.

And me? I performed my role flawlessly.
As if nothing were wrong, he smiled and even danced with Greg. On the inside, though, I was simply waiting for the right opportunity to reveal the truth.

Greg’s excitement for our wedding night increased as the evening went on. His eyes gleamed with anticipation, and his hands lingered too long. But I had my own plan in mind.

Greg showed me the master suite, which his parents had given us for our first night together, after the guests had left and they had retired to the downstairs guest rooms. The moment he shut the door, the atmosphere in the room changed.

He walked slowly toward me while touching my wedding gown. He pressed his whisper against my neck and said, “I’ve been waiting for this all night.”

“So have I,” I smiled in response.

He unzipped my dress slowly.

I turned around as soon as the fabric hit the floor and saw his whole world fall apart before my eyes.
A temporary but remarkably lifelike tattoo of his ex-girlfriend Sarah’s face with the words he had spoken to her the night before our wedding stretched across my torso:

“A final taste of independence before being permanently bound to the same body.”

Greg fell to the ground. “No, this isn’t taking place.”

“How were you aware?” he stumbled.

“Sarah was eager to confront me about your treachery,” I said icily. “I therefore ensured that you would never forget it.”

Outside, footsteps resounded. His parents, James and Marianne, rushed into the room.

“What’s happening?” Marianne looked around the scene and asked.

Her face turned white. The tattoo caught her attention. James, who has always been quiet, didn’t have to speak. His fists and clenched jaw spoke for themselves.

“It’s easy,” I said coolly. Greg betrayed me. with his former partner. the evening of our nuptials.

Stunned, Marianne took a seat on the bed’s edge. James froze. Greg was still sobbing on the ground.

“Gregory,” snarled James. “Is that accurate?”

He didn’t respond.

I verified that he had slept with her. Additionally, he informed her that he needed “one last taste of freedom.”
Marianne sobbed, choking. James’s eyes were blazing with rage.

Greg made an effort to protect himself. “It was an error… I didn’t intend to.

I yelled, “It wasn’t a mistake.” It was a decision. I was betrayed by you. You now have to deal with the repercussions.

He pleaded for pardon. “Please, Lilith. I cherish you.

I chuckled.

“You adore me? You have no idea what love is, Greg. You wouldn’t have done what you did if you had.

He crawled over to me and said, “Please. I beg you.

I took a step back. “It’s finished. The instant you crawled back to Sarah, you ruined us.

James came forward with a thunderous voice.

“Stand up,” he said. “Take a stand and own up to your mistakes.”

Greg got to his feet slowly. He was a man who had lost everything, and he looked pathetic in his wrinkled tuxedo and tear-streaked face.

I asked his parents.

With a steady voice, I declared, “I’m leaving.” “He is now your issue.”

“Please, Lilith,” Greg cried one final time. “Refrain from leaving.”
However, I had already finished. I covered the tattoo with a robe and made my way to the door.

He yelled, “Lilith!” after me. “I am capable of changing! I’ll make this right!

I didn’t even look back. Nothing more could be said.

James’s low, irate voice broke the stillness as I descended the stairs:

Greg, this is what you did. Everything was ruined by you.

Then the house was filled with Greg’s broken sobs.

They didn’t touch me, though.

I had my head held high as I left that house.

Not a lie.

Not betrayed.

Greg-free.
