Heart’s Ann Wilson stuns fans at 73 years young with the glorious power of her voice on poignant acoustic rendition of Led Zeppelin classic “Going to California”
Heart singer Ann Wilson, 73, brought both force and restraint to the band’s rendition of Led Zeppelin’s “Going to California” for The Howard Stern Show. The performance spread widely online, drawing attention to the power of her singing and the softer, more delicate emotion she gave the verses.
Taking on Robert Plant’s vocal part required considerable range and versatility because of his distinctive approach. Wilson combined technical control across that range with the emotional weight highlighted throughout the performance, displaying the breadth of her abilities as a vocalist.
Nancy Wilson, Ann’s sister, performed the acoustic guitar part associated with Jimmy Page. Heart’s accompanying musicians also successfully followed the folk arrangement and its changes in dynamics.
The Howard Stern Show added the performance to YouTube on April 11, 2024. It went on to accumulate roughly 1.4 million views.
