AURORA’s Spellbinding ‘Across The Universe’ Cover Enchants Listeners
Pink face paint marked the area beneath AURORA’s eyes as she settled behind the keyboard in the Like A Version studio. For her cover selection, the Norwegian singer chose “Across The Universe,” taking on a song by The Beatles with an already firmly established sound.
Known for bringing an ethereal, atmospheric quality to her music, AURORA drew out the composition’s mystical elements. Her arrangement made particular use of harmonies, allowing her recognizable style to shape the performance without abandoning its connection to the original.
The response placed the rendition among the program’s most highly regarded entries: it was voted one of the greatest Like A Version performances ever. A viewer said the cover seemed to open their entire heart and called it magical. Its video went on to surpass 2.7 million views.
The source’s writer praised AURORA for accepting the challenge presented by such an iconic song and for balancing tribute with an individual interpretation. The choice carried an intimidating precedent. David Bowie had attempted his own cover in 1975, only for critics to slate it, a reception that could have made later artists reluctant to try the same material. AURORA’s decision, however, was rewarded by the strong response to her version.
